YouTube and Internet Explorer 9

YouTube and Internet Explorer 9

Are you not able to view Youtube videos after upgrading your browser to IE9?

I had that problem and I believe I found the solution.

I found that the problem was that activex filtering was enabled (by default?)  on my IE9 browser.

So should I just turn off activex filtering?

No, I don’t think so.

From a secuity standpoint, you probably don’t want activex enabled for any and all sites that you might visit.

I believe there is a better way.

Now if I visit a website (ex: YouTube) that has Flash content (YouTube uses Adobe Flash player) that I want to view  - I can click on the blue circle with the diagonal line that is located to the right inside the address / search box (upper left of browser).

Then I will have the option of disabling activex filtering for just that website.

And if you are not currently experiencing this problem and you are able to view YouTube videos you can view the following video that illustrates the problem and the solution:

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer IE9

The new version of Internet Explorer IE9 is now available for download:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/products/ie/home

Please be advised that your operating system will need to be Windows Vista or Windows 7. That’s right: IE9 will not run on the XP operating system.

If you are on Windows 7 as I am – and I hope you are – then you can go ahead and download IE9.

I did download IE9 this morning and I had to reboot to complete the installation.

I did not experience any problems and all my favorites, history, default home page and preferred search provider are all intact.

My first impressions are all positive thus far.

I like the look and feel of IE9.

The interface seems more modern and everything feels more responsive.

I must admit my bias as I am a Microsoft partner and I have been waiting for this release because IE9 supports html5, CSS 3, and SVG – all w3c standards. These new standards will evolve the internet to a much improved experience once everyone “get’s on board”.

Google analytics is showing that 60 % or more of visitors to my website are on internet explorer so I have to keep this in mind as I improve my website over time to add new html5 and css 3 features to my site.

These new web standards and technologies are very exciting to me – I envision expanded opportunities to communicate over the web with audio, video and enhanced graphics capability.

There are some examples that you can view here:  http://www.beautyoftheweb.com/# and here: http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/

And now I will begin to experiment with coding some test websites with some of the new html5 capabilities.

As always, I will keep you posted.
