I primarily play traditional Irish folk (Irish Trad) music on the diatonic button box accordion. I have been told that my grandma played the button accordion back in the old country prior to her emigrating to the US in her teens, but my musical interests go well beyond just Irish Trad.
I love world music. I love the Acadian and Breton fiddle music. I love the Cajun and zydeco music of Louisiana where the accordion is king. I love the French musette and the Basque folk music best exemplified by Kepa Junkera. I love the Tex-Mex, Conjunto and Tejano music best exemplified by Flaco Jiménez.
That is me. I am a result of a life spent listening to a wide and ever expanding range of music.
It is really about the music. That is who I am. When I play my accordion, I try to become the music. I become the conduit, channeling the music that comes from a higher place. When everything is working right, we experience the flow state. This is when the music is magic. I hope to take you there with me.
Let's go.
